Ophthalmic Technology Assessments

Ophthalmic Technology Assessments (OTAs), written and reviewed by the Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee of the Quality of Care Secretariat and of the H. Dunbar Hoskins Jr., MD Center for Quality Eye Care (Hoskins Center), evaluate new and existing procedures, drugs and diagnostic and screening tests for safety and clinical effectiveness. OTAs are published in Ophthalmology, the Academy's clinical journal.
Authors and reviewers of OTAs are volunteers and do not receive any financial compensation for their contributions to the documents. Assessments are developed by the Hoskins Center and Academy-approved without any external financial support and are externally reviewed by experts and stakeholders before publication.

The Academy complies with the Council of medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) Code for Interactions with Companies (available at www.cmss.org/codeforinteractions.aspx) in developing OTAs by following the Preferred Practice Patterns and Ophthalmic Technology Assessments: New Relationship with Industry Procedures.

Reproduction or transmission of OTAs, in electronic or print media, is expressly prohibited without written permission of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. To request permission to reproduce or reprint OTAs or to link to this website, contact dmarchi@aao.org.

Direct all other inquiries regarding OTAs to quality@aao.org.
