Patient Safety

The Hoskins Center and the Academy introduced the Patient Safety Bulletins to increase patient safety and to inform ophthalmologists of systematic practices that can prevent errors from occuring. Authors and reviewers of Patient Safety Bulletins are volunteers and do not receive any financial compensation for their contributions to the documents.

Downloading of Patient Safety Bulletins for personal use is permitted.

The Hoskins Center and Academy has established a linkage with the National Registry of Drug-Induced Ocular Side Effects, supported by the Casey Eye Institute of Oregon Health and Science University. You can look up information about adverse ocular reactions from systemic and ocular drugs, chemicals and herbals. You can also submit reports on adverse ocular events to help provide early warning of possible problems. The Registry accumulates data from the Food and Drug Administration, pharmaceutical companies, scientific literature and the World Health Organization. This is available to Academy members only.
