DALK/DMEK Wetlab Instruction Course

The NIIOS organizes wetlab instruction courses at regular time intervals. Each course consists of a two-day program scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday. At the first day (Tuesday), participants are invited to observe various live-surgeries in patients, and at the second day (Wednesday), participants receive a hands-on training in lamellar keratoplasty techniques in a wetlab set-up. It is anticipated that participants
-become familiar with the indications, results, complications and aftercare of the various surgical techniques for anterior and posterior lamellar keratoplasty and in particular DALK and DMEK;
-become familiar with the various methods for surgical preparation and preservation of donor corneal tissue used for DALK and DMEK;
-achieve a basic training in DALK and DMEK in porcine eyes;
-observe 3-4 live-surgeries to become familiar with relevant clinical protocols for DALK and DMEK. The educational level is advanced.
